As the crisis in Calais is escalating rapidly with thousands of people camped out in the northern port of France, the Olive Service team set off on a humanitarian mission to offer assistance and distribute provisions to the plight of migrants and refugees at the heart of this crisis.
This is a sentiment echoed by many other organisations and Olive wanted to emulate this compassionate gesture by lending a helping hand to the many people starving, living in grim conditions and deprived of basic supplies.
Olive Services donated food, clothing and other beneficial supplies to a UK based sorting house and received an immeasurable amount of support from others who were willing to donate what they could to help out.
For each piece of clothing or pack of food donated, Olive Services matched this with a 50p donation which was used to buy more clothes from a few local charity shops. As a bonus, the charity shops agreed to donate one piece of clothing for each piece purchased.
The camp is one of the largest refugee sites in Europe, teeming with a variety of people living in makeshift structures eager to seek asylum. Aid is fundamental in keeping the camp functioning and Olive Services will continue to support and donate what they can to help improve the lives of vulnerable people in Calais.
